BOOKKEEPER

The Brownsville Historical Association seeks a part-time professional for bookkeeping services. The position requires 20 hours per week, focusing on maintaining accurate financial records, managing invoices, and reconciling accounts. Familiarity with QuickBooks is essential. Ideal candidates should have relevant non-profit accounting experience and strong attention to detail.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

•    Bachelor’s degree desired; associates degree in accounting required.   

•    Minimum of 3 year’s recent experience providing level administrative support and accountants work. 

•    Excellent written and oral communication skills. 

•    Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite – including Word, Excel and Quickbooks. 

•    Ability to prioritize workflow and manage a fluctuating workload.

•    Strong organizational, problem solving, record management, filing and planning skills. 

•    Ability to assess/reassess priorities effectively and efficiently in order to meet deadlines. 

•    Prior experience in professionally handling confidential information. 

•    Ability to work a flexible schedule determined by the needs of the BHA.

•    Spanish language knowledge desirable.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/EXPECTATIONS:

•    Record day to day financial transactions and complete the posting process.

•    Write checks, make deposits, pay bills, handle communications with Executive Director.

•    Enter data, maintain records, reports and financial statements.  File all necessary documents in an organized manner. 

•    Handle payroll in a timely manner.

•    Purchase supplies and equipment as authorized by the Executive Director; monitor office supply levels and re-order as necessary.  

•    Issue invoices to customers.

•    Ensure that receivables are collected promptly.

•    Record cash receipts and make bank deposits. 

•    Provide all accounting information to the external accountant who files the BHA’s tax return.  

•    Provide clerical and administrative support to Executive Director as requested and performs other duties as assigned.  Reports directly to the Executive Director.   

•    Provide financial reports to the Executive Director monthly for board meetings.

•    Excellent communication, interpersonal, and management skills. 

•    Proven ability to work on various financial matters. 

•    Good organizational and time management skills.
