Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in U.S. women, per the CDC, accounting for about 30% of new female cancers each year. While the life-threatening disease typically occurs in middle-aged and older women, more cases of breast cancer are being reported in women under 40.
A mammogram is the only test shown to reduce breast cancer deaths, per the American College of Radiology. Mammograms can detect cancer early – when most treatable – long before it can be felt, which improves odds of survival and can help avoid more extensive treatment.
This May, South Texas Health System is raising awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection through its Cinco de Mammo initiative, which encourages women to speak with their doctor about their breast cancer risk and get screened, if recommended.
South Texas Health System cordially invites you to a special luncheon to launch the monthlong event. Our Celebration of Strength & Hope will feature the participation of women who’ve survived and thrived in their battle with breast cancer, a remembrance of those lives lost and important education on the disease.
